How To Transform Your Backyard Into An Entertainment Space
Posted by Renovator Mate on 23 Sep 2020
With the glorious Aussie summer climate, we’ve always liked to entertain and get our friends and family together for a couple of backyard barbeques. With spring on the way and summer hot on its heels, it’s time to start turning your attention to your backyard. More than likely, winter hasn’t been kind to it and it needs a sprucing up in time for summer.
In our current situation, we’ll be entertaining and socialising outdoors more this summer than ever before. If you’re keen to enjoy some al fresco dining, a couple of evening sundowners or, for the early birds, brunch under the sun in the comfort of your backyard, you’ll want to start thinking about it now to get it ready in time. But you might be struggling to see how you can transform your backyard into an entertainment area.
Let’s take a closer look at a few tweaks and additions you can make to your backyard to transform it into an epic space that your friends and family will want to keep coming back to.
Don’t Forget The Obvious Things
While it might be easy to get carried away adding more extravagant things like outdoor speakers, a pool or a hot tub, your backyard can’t be an entertainment area without some of the plain and obvious items. Some simple touches like sociable — and comfortable — seating, a garden dining table on a patio or deck area will all help to create a communal welcoming vibe to entertain your guests in.

Consider Privacy
If you’re really going to enjoy spending time in your backyard, first and foremost you’ll want to ensure that you have privacy from prying eyes. This is where planning ahead to add in items like pergolas, trellises, fences, vertical gardens and even outdoor roller blinds will be vital. Your backyard will feel more like a place where you can relax and entertain if you don’t have to worry about the neighbours being able to see your every move.
As well as that, if you don’t want to worry about your neighbours overhearing every word or you simply want to drown out the sounds of nearby traffic, a fountain or water feature can help to create some soothing ambient sounds.
Add An Outdoor Kitchen
If you love to cook, then the ultimate in creating a backyard where you can really wine and dine your guests is to add an outdoor kitchen. You’ll more than likely want a good old-fashioned barbie in your backyard regardless, but why not create more of a permanent set up so you don’t have to traipse in and out to the fridge every time you need to grab something or to the sink whenever you need to wash your hands? If you add in these elements to your outdoor kitchen — cooking outdoors will be a breeze!

Don’t Overlook Outdoor Lighting
If you plan on entertaining in your backyard after the sun sets, then you’ll definitely want to consider adding outdoor lighting. At the very least you should have the walkway to your house and the porch or entrance lit up so that your guests can safely find their way after dark. You can also create a cool effect by adding some string bulbs and different light features into the trees in your backyard. Incorporate some solar-powered lights in your backyard too as they’ll simply illuminate after dark without needing to be wired up. If you have an outdoor kitchen, the grill and work areas should be appropriately lit with good task lighting overhead.
Enjoy Entertaining In Your Backyard
Sprucing up your backyard with the essentials like inviting seating and dining areas with proper lighting will easily transform your backyard to accommodate guests. If you also include the added touches like privacy and are able to cook up a storm for them in your outdoor kitchen, you will have easily created the perfect outdoor space to entertain your friends and family in this summer.
